Retroactive Withdrawal

Petitioning for a retroactive withdrawal is an option for students who have experienced extenuating circumstances that have impacted their academic performance, such as health problems (physical or mental), a family emergency (a death in the family) and unexpected financial difficulty (a parent losing their job). Instances of university error or non-attendance are resolved by the colleges, but are initially reviewed by a member of the retroactive withdrawal committee.

Course Replacement (Repeating Courses)

As of Fall 2019, the University of Colorado Boulder allows degree-seeking undergraduate and graduate students to repeat most courses in which they earned a low grade (C- or below) in an attempt to improve their cumulative GPA. Law and non-degree students are not eligible for grade replacement. We recommend working with an advisor if you decide to invoke the policy.

Tutoring

There are a variety of tutoring resources available for CU Boulder students. These include general tutoring in math, the sciences and writing, as well as department-specific tutoring resources.

Instructors & TAs

Attending a course instructor's office hours are highly recommended for all students. This is an opportunity to engage with an instructor, as well as learn how to be successful in the course. Reviewing course material and preparing questions ahead of time are strongly recommended. A course instructor's office hours can usually be found on the syllabus and/or on Canvas.

Talk to Your Advisor

It is strongly recommended that students meet with their academic advisor(s). Advisors are trained to support students in a variety of ways, including course registration, locating resources around campus and major exploration. Make an appointment or find your advisor's drop-in hours by clicking their photo in MyCUHub
