Dr. Susan Taylor Mayne (Chem’82)

George Norlin Award

A trailblazer in nutrition science and public health, Susan’s leadership helped eliminate industrial trans fats from the U.S. food supply — an achievement linked to thousands of lives saved each year. This path to shaping some of the nation’s most influential nutrition policies started in CU Boulder’s chemistry labs where she became motivated to improve health through diet.

After serving three decades as a professor of epidemiology at the Yale School of Public Health, Susan became the director of the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. In her role, which spanned three presidential administrations, she shaped national policy on added sugars, sodium reduction and food safety.

We’re honored to celebrate Dr. Susan Taylor Mayne and her accomplishments with the George Norlin Award at the 96th Annual Alumni Awards Ceremony this spring.

Dave Sheanin (MBA’99)

Alumni Recognition Award

Since moving to Boulder in 1993, Dave has been a pillar of the community. After earning his MBA from the Leeds School of Business in 1999, he has spent the last two decades guiding student-athletes as assistant coach of the CU Club Triathlon Team.

Beyond coaching, Dave dedicates his time and resources to making triathlons accessible, maintaining equipment for aspiring athletes and volunteering with Athletes in Tandem, an organization helping athletes with physical limitations experience running, cycling and triathlon events.

Dave has also supported the YMCA Kids Triathlon, helping more than 300 young athletes compete each year, and coached elite athletes through D3 Multisport as a certified coach for USA Triathlon and Training Peaks. His mentorship extends far beyond sports, inspiring students and athletes to grow as leaders and individuals.

Dave Sheanin is the recipient of the Alumni Recognition Award and will be honored this spring at the 96th Annual Alumni Awards Ceremony.

Aaditya Pore (AeroEngr, CompSci’25)

Forever Buffs Student Award

Aaditya — known as Aadi — is a dual aerospace engineering and computer science major whose impact spans research, innovation and student leadership. As a NASA Pathways intern, he’s contributed to advances in additive manufacturing, materials science and engine component design — work shaping the future of flight and space exploration.

On campus, Aadi serves as president of the Senior Class Council and previously led CU’s Legislative Council, advocating for students, shaping policy and stewarding key campus initiatives. He’s also a CU Graduating Leader of the Year and founded the CU Gateway Club, connecting students to high-impact internships, including at NASA.

Beyond CU, Aadi co-founded FreePPEKC, a nonprofit that delivered more than 8,000 units of 3D-printed PPE during the pandemic. His research in soft robotics and actuator design, along with top honors at major hackathons, reflects his commitment to advancing STEM for the public good.

Dr. Stephen Kissler (ApMath’14; MA’14)

Kalpana Chawla Outstanding Recent Graduate Award

Stephen’s path began at CU Boulder as a Boettcher Scholar, where research in applied mathematics and infectious disease modeling set the foundation for a career focused on pandemic preparedness.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Stephen became a leading voice in public health. At the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, he published landmark research on transmission dynamics, including a top-ranked science article, and consulted for groups like the NBA and Partners in Health. His expertise helped shape equitable vaccination strategies and real-time pandemic decision making.

Now back at CU Boulder as a faculty member, Stephen leads a lab developing digital tools for outbreak surveillance through NSF and CDC funding. He continues to mentor students, strengthen epidemiological literacy and contribute to global health research and education.

Dr. Stephen Kissler is the recipient of the Kalpana Chawla Outstanding Recent Graduate Award and will be honored this spring at the 96th Annual Alumni Awards Ceremony.
