Stay Connected: Update Your Alumni Contact Information
.
If you’re a CU Boulder alum looking for information about upcoming changes to your @colorado.edu email account, you’re exactly where you need to be. We’re here to guide you through what’s changing, why it’s happening and the simple steps you can take to stay connected.
What’s Changing — and What You Need to Know
CU Boulder is discontinuing the alumni email program on Aug. 31, 2026, which means all alumni @colorado.edu accounts will become inaccessible on that date. If you are a CU Boulder student, staff or faculty member, your account will remain active while your affiliation to the university is current.
This decision supports long‑term security, compliance and responsible stewardship of university resources. A few key factors shaped this change:
Security: Inactive accounts create vulnerabilities that put users and university systems at risk.
Compliance: New security standards make long‑term support for alumni accounts unsustainable.
Cost: Licensing costs have risen significantly.
Low usage: About 7.5% of alumni used their account in the past year.
Stewardship: Resources are being realigned to better support student success and campus priorities.
What Alumni Should Do Now
To ensure a smooth transition, alumni should complete these three steps before Aug. 31, 2026:
Update your personal email addressusing the form on this page so CU Boulder can stay in touch.
Transfer emails or files you want to keep from your @colorado.edu account to another location.
Update any third‑party accounts (banking, subscriptions, logins) that currently use your @colorado.edu email as a primary or secondary address.
As a graduate of CU Boulder, you share experiences and history with a 320,000-strong network of Forever Buffs. And there are so many opportunities to make the most of that network — through travel, campus events like Homecoming and Alumni Weekend, mentoring and networking, just to name a few of the ways you can connect. We look forward to staying in touch!
