Provost's Post, Jan. 2026

Dear colleagues,

Welcome back and I hope you are all having a great start to 2026.  While the winter break seems like just yesterday, the semester is well under way. We’ve already had a chance to celebrate MLK Day together, and have moved to the next phase of campus-level faculty review of promotion and tenure cases. It’s probably too early to mention our spring commencement, but we are aiming to start a new tradition of a robust faculty representation at our campuswide ceremony. Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks. 

In this edition of Provost’s Post, you’ll find updates on our work together: Two Perspectives pieces—one, a re-sharing of my executive editorial from last month on prioritizing faculty success; the second, a new piece on our continuing series, Understanding Federal Governance: Institutions, Civics, Impact, sponsored by the Office of the Chancellor, Faculty Affairs and CU Boulder’s shared governance organizations.

You’ll also find a host of recent stories you might have missed—on the Chancellor’s Faculty Salary Task Force report, on CU Boulder’s receiving the 2026 Carnegie Elective Classification for Community Engagement and a preview of CU Boulder’s first-ever Community Engagement Week, which begins next week. We're also featuring the new staff members at the SPIKE Center for Sustainability and the Ombuds Office announcing a second new associate ombudsperson.
