First Things First: Constructing a Course Syllabus
Stefanie Mollborn, Professor of Sociology
James Symons, Professor of Theatre and Dance
In this workshop we will discuss general principles in syllabus preparation, including the purpose of a syllabus for both faculty and students, distinctions based on the type of course, the characteristics of a good (i.e., useful) syllabus, and what reduces the value of a syllabus. Examples will be drawn from courses in Arts and Humanities and Engineering. Participants are encouraged to bring their own syllabi for discussion.
