The Business of Sports

The Business of Sports Certificate ProgramThe Business of Sports Certificate is a two-month, intensive certificate program offered by the Leeds School of Business. The program is a 6-credit “boot camp” for students and recent graduates who are seriously interested in pursuing careers in the sports and recreation industry.

Business of Sports 2017 will be held from June 12 to July 28, 2017. The program is Monday-Friday, 9am-12pm and 1pm-4pm.

Students will spend half of the day learning about what it is like to work in various divisions of the sports business world. Industry practitioners walk students through day-to-day operations of these departments and explain what it takes to get into these positions. The following divisions will be examined and integrated with industry-specific topics and industry guest speakers:

  • Economics of Sports
  • Sports Law
  • Sports Facility and Event Management
  • Sports Marketing and Sales
  • Sport Analytics
  • Ticket Sales
  • Diversity & Inclusion

During the other half of the day, students will conduct extensive research on a project developed by one of our contributing partners:

Throughout the program, students will have numerous networking opportunities. They will meet professionals from different avenues of sports through career days and site visits.


The Mission of the Business of Sports program is to offer high-quality academic and experiential learning designed to promote and uphold the principles of leadership, integrity, professionalism and innovation. As such BOS will maintain a commitment to excellence by providing an outstanding, respectful, responsive and transformative environment on the pillars of collaboration and creativity. The Business of Sports program will establish meaningful partnerships with some of Denver’s premier leaders in the sports and entertainment industry to forecast developing trends and cultivate new best practices and ensure students are well prepared to provide positive contributions to the industry.


To continue the transformation into a regional leader in sports business programs through the development and maintenance of a unique culture and experiential curriculum; one that promotes engagement, cross-disciplinary collaboration, innovation and industry leading data-driven decision making in order to expand student’s minds and further their opportunity.
