Scott Franz

Scott Franz is a science writer who enjoys covering everything from robots hunting for invasive species in the Colorado River to inventions helping people with disabilities learn to ski. He covers space science, physics, engineering, geology, anthropology, political science and education. Prior to joining CU Boulder in 2026, Franz was a journalist in Colorado for two decades, reporting for newspapers and KUNC public radio. Franz earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from CU Boulder in 2010. When he’s not on campus, he enjoys long-distance hiking and climbing 14ers with his wife Holly.
