The future of artistry

The College of Music is one of the country’s top public music programs, including impressive facilities that reflect the talent and artistry of our students and faculty.

In particular, our Imig Music Building—recently expanded by 64,000 square feet—not only keeps our music programs thriving, but also encourages collaboration and innovation in growing areas like music entrepreneurship, wellness, and media and technology. In the Imig Music Building gallery, explore photos and architects' renderings of our new and renovated spaces. These performance, rehearsal, studio, learning, staff, wellness and entrepreneurship spaces help our students and faculty flourish—intellectually, physically, emotionally and musically.

The concept

Groundbreaking happened in February 2019, and the building dedication and ribbon-cutting happened in September 2021 (browse our Facebook photo album of the event). Peruse the project timeline here or enjoy a timelapse video of the construction.

A landmark for music in Boulder

The expansion along Wardenburg Drive dramatically changed the exterior of the Imig Music Building, providing a beautiful new gathering place for students, faculty and music lovers with sweeping views of the iconic Flatirons. Learn more about this timely transition for the College of Music that celebrated its 100th birthday in 2020.

Inspiring musical exploration

New rehearsal and recital facilities, including an upgraded Chamber Hall and a dual-purpose rehearsal-performance space with retractable seating, provide our students and faculty with the space they need to pursue excellence in performance in ensemble and solo settings.

Developing the universal musician

New classrooms and a state-of-the-art recording studio, along with dedicated suites for the Entrepreneurship Center for Music and Musicians’ Wellness Program, elevate the definition of artistry for our students, faculty and alumni.
