Student Edition - Sept. 23, 2016

R&B artist Gallant will headline this year's Homecoming concert on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 8 p.m. in the Glenn Miller Ballroom. The concert is just one of many events and activities happening during Homecoming week. Tickets will be $5 for CU students and $10 for the public.

Research at CU Boulder encompasses thousands of scholarly, scientific and creative endeavors at any given time, resulting in new knowledge, technologies and creative work that advance the economy, culture and health of Colorado, the nation and the world. Here is a selection of the top CU research stories of the week.

Students, faculty and staff at CU Boulder, JILA and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) shared remembrances this week of Deborah Jin, who passed away on Sept. 15, 2016 at the age of 47 after battling cancer.

The city of Boulder and the county are working on an update of the Boulder Valley Comprehensive Plan, which guides development in the valley. Part of that may include a proposal to annex a 308-acre parcel of land south of the city that could support the university’s long-term growth needs. On Monday, city and county officials will host an open house to give the community a chance to learn more about the plan update and to provide input.

Since the 1970’s, CU Boulder has established a proud tradition of leading the nation in sustainability initiatives.

The CU Environmental Center's Energy Outreach Team is excited to announce that we are one of only three locations nationwide to be premiering 'Before the Flood,' an inspiring new climate documentary by Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, Fisher Stevens and National Geographic. The screening will be held in Humanities 150 at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 28.

Last week, the Colorado Buffaloes played well enough to win in two of three phases against fourth-ranked Michigan—and paid dearly for their mistakes in the third area.

SWAP (Student Worker Alliance Program) pairs students with employees who are learning English. The program is hosting a training for students from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24.
