Reaching out statewide to tell our story on such a personal level to alumni, donors, newspaper editors, business and government leaders is one of the most gratifying things I do all year.

The feedback from students is clear: CU Boulder can do a better job of providing a seamless experience for student services and business transactions. With this in mind, we are excited to announce the Unified Student Experience Project.

With finals right around the corner, and the last of the snow melted (hopefully), the end of the school year for many is almost here. First and foremost, congratulations on a successful year! If you are graduating, best of luck to you in the future and we hope you stay connected. If you are returning in the fall, or staying for Maymester or summer classes, I hope to see you around.

A small group of students has been advocating for a fossil-free investment portfolio for the university. On Wednesday, I provided a letter of support to them for their civil discourse and nonviolent approach.

Determining the federal budget is a lengthy and complex process that includes many opportunities for input along the way. Vice Chancellor Terri Fiez explains the process and discusses CU Boulder's ongoing efforts to grow research funding.

The academic year starts as a marathon, ends in a sprint, and now the finish line is in sight. Whether you are a new graduate or a returning student I hope you will take advantage of the abundant resources of the university to break the tape and make a difference in your community, in your nation and in the world.

An essential element of the university’s success is its people. As an institution, we need to continuously examine how our employees are supported and connected to our community. This fall, I charged a task force to examine work-life issues for front-line service staff at CU Boulder. These employees play a valued role in the life of the university, and we need to improve our ability to attract, develop and retain employees in these positions and provide a welcoming working environment.

Over a 10-year cycle, CU Boulder works with a regional accreditor on quality assurance and institutional improvements for reaffirmation of accreditation. The current cycle concludes in 2019-20, but work has already begun.
