NASA is inviting members of the public to submit their names and a personal message online for a DVD to be carried aboard a spacecraft that will study the Martian upper atmosphere. Scheduled for launch in November, the DVD will be in NASA's Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution (MAVEN) spacecraft. The DVD is part of the mission's Going to Mars Campaign coordinated at the University of Colorado Boulder's Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics.

Engineering students at the University of Colorado Boulder are gearing up for several days of intensive activity next week, when they will celebrate Engineering Days and display their hands-on design projects at the annual spring Engineering Design Expo. Engineering Days, or E-Days, is an annual celebration of the engineering profession organized by the University of Colorado Engineering Council, or UCEC, and student honor societies. Activities include a water rocket launch, high school and college egg drops, a carnival and other fun activities for students.

The University of Colorado Boulder’s annual Conference on World Affairs returns to campus for the 65th time April 8-12, featuring 200 panel discussions, performances and plenaries. Over 100 participants from around the country and the globe will pay their own way to travel to Boulder to present in what Roger Ebert has dubbed “the Conference on Everything Conceivable.”

Colorado communities have a new tool to help identify programs aimed at developing healthy children free from problems like bullying, violence, obesity and depression. The Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence at the University of Colorado Boulder, in partnership with the Annie E. Casey Foundation, today launched a new interactive website called Blueprints for Healthy Youth Development. The website will allow schools, communities and government agencies to find scientifically proven programs based on their specific needs.

University of Colorado Boulder students, along with experts from government and industry, will focus on student research and topics including energy storage and cooperation with China during the fourth annual Energy Frontiers conference April 4. The event, organized by the CU Energy Club, is free and open to the public and will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Glenn Miller Ballroom of the University Memorial Center. The conference includes a poster session, panel discussion, catered lunch and a career fair.

NASA’s next Mars mission is giving students and the public worldwide an opportunity to have a personal connection with space exploration through a new education and public outreach effort called the “Going to Mars” campaign. The campaign is led on behalf of the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution, or MAVEN mission, by the University of Colorado Boulder.

The Colorado Shakespeare Festival’s highly praised school anti-violence tour continues in spring 2013 with a new program based on “The Tempest” that focuses on themes of vengeance and forgiveness. Created in conjunction with the Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence at the University of Colorado Boulder, CSF’s “Twelfth Night” anti-bullying tour has now been seen by more than 22,000 Colorado schoolchildren. That inaugural program examined the problem of bullying through the character Malvolio.

The Bryon R. White Center at the University of Colorado Law School will host its second annual Marshall-Brennan Moot Court Competition at the Wolf Law Building from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9.

The University of Colorado Boulder is ranked No. 4 in the nation for graduates serving as Peace Corps volunteers with 93 alumni currently serving around the world, the Peace Corps announced today. Since 2004, CU-Boulder has held a position in the top four among institutions of similar size. CU-Boulder is the fifth highest volunteer-producing university of all time with 2,353 undergraduate alumni having served in the program since it was established in 1961.
