This MLK Day, the Center for African and African American Studies and the Volunteer Resource Center are teaming up to offer an opportunity open to students, faculty and staff in honor of the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr., a nationally recognized day of service.

A four-day conference—hosted by the College of Media, Communication and Information’s Center for Media, Religion and Culture—will examine the rise of religious nationalism and the media’s role in the spread of news and meaning around these topics.

MOMIX, a multimedia, illusionist dance company, will summon the psychedelic spirit of Lewis Carroll in its production of “Alice,” brought to campus by CU Presents.

In 2023, Colorado Governor Jared Polis proclaimed the first day of Black History Month each year as the Center for African and African American Studies Day. This anniversary event is open to the public and its original location has been moved to the Glenn Miller Ballroom.

CU Boulder has invited Tabatha L. Jones Jolivet, an abolitionist organizer, educator, minister and scholar, to be the keynote speaker at a campus convocation to honor and reflect on the implications of Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy, considering current contexts.

Dress to impress and join the African Student Association for its first African Royalty Fashion Show, a night of culture meant to educate, enlighten and embrace African elegance and diversity.

Enjoy a complimentary staff appreciation breakfast, hosted by Staff Council. The menu will include fruit, bacon, breakfast potatoes, quinoa and broccoli hash, scrambled eggs, pastries and more. The event will be an opportunity for attendees to drop off donations for area pantries as well.

Catch the No. 7-ranked CU women’s basketball team for a lunch-time showdown beginning at 11 a.m., Dec. 5, against the University of Texas at Arlington. Students get in for free, and all other tickets are just $5.

The public is invited to the CU Events Center to watch Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders accept his recently announced Sportsperson of the Year award by Sports Illustrated. The free event will include giveaways, a docuseries screening and more.
