University of Colorado Boulder student Andrew Nelson has been awarded a prestigious Goldwater Scholarship. The scholarship is worth up to $7,500 and recognizes sophomores and juniors who have achieved high academic merit and who are expected to be leaders in their fields.

The University of Colorado ski team put individual accomplishments aside Saturday, skiing with a strategy with limited risks to get all of its racers through the slalom, and the end result saw the Buffaloes bring home the title at the 62nd annual NCAA Skiing Championship.

CU-Boulder marks 100 years of Homecoming

Not everybody or everything makes it to 100, but the University of Colorado Boulder Homecoming is about to reach that centennial mark. On Nov. 7, 1914, CU took on Utah to win 33-0 in the first Homecoming featuring an intercollegiate matchup. This year, from Oct. 22 to 25, CU-Boulder will host hundreds of guests at dozens of major events. In addition to the traditional football game and parade, the celebration will include a concert, an alumni lecture series, affinity reunions and college and school gatherings.

Cross Country season starts Saturday

The University of Colorado cross country teams have consistently been one of the most dominate combined squads in the nation and this year the Buffs looks like they will remain that way with all of the talent returning to both men’s and women’s teams. The season officially kicks off on Saturday, Aug. 30, as the Buffs will host the CU Alumni/Open/Time Trial at the Buffalo Ranch Cross Country Course on CU’s South Campus. The women’s 5.8-kilometer race will start at 8:30 a.m. and the men’s 8k race will follow at 9:15 a.m. Parking and admission are free.

CU-Boulder’s Week of Welcome features convocation, music fest and more

New students at the University of Colorado Boulder will be greeted with dozens of activities including a welcome convocation, a Folsom Field pep rally and a “Global Jam” international food and music fest during Week of Welcome beginning Aug. 21. The free events give new students a chance to get acquainted with each other, the campus and surrounding community before classes start on Aug. 25. The activities are scheduled in addition to orientation sessions that cover the details of class registration, policies and student services at each college.

New and returning students moving into the University of Colorado Boulder residence halls can choose which day to move in Aug. 18-21, will swipe Buff OneCards instead of filling out a form to check in and will be able to take advantage of “Quick Drop Stations.” “We take pride in doing our best to provide a warm welcome and a helping hand for our new and returning students,” said John Fox, associate director of Residence Life. “This year we decided to make some changes in order to make the process as smooth as possible.”
