Nominations welcome for University Libraries dean search

Fernando Rosario-Ortiz, interim vice chancellor for academic resource management, announced today the official launch of the search for the next dean of University Libraries. The university invites nominations and applications for this leadership role by Jan. 2, 2026.

Rosario-Ortiz expressed appreciation to all who participated in the engagement sessions in October, noting the feedback gathered was instrumental in shaping the position profile for the new dean. “The insights shared by the libraries community and our deans helped us define the qualities and priorities we seek in the next dean,” he said.

“We are seeking an innovative, collaborative, engaged and empathetic leader with a deep commitment to personnel and constituent care,” Rosario-Ortiz said. “The next dean of University Libraries at CU Boulder will be charged with creating a forward-looking and collaborative vision for the libraries’ future, while fostering a human-centered, inclusive and transparent organizational culture.”

Finalists for the position will be announced and invited to campus during the spring semester for presentations and meetings with a variety of university constituents. Rosario-Ortiz anticipates the new University Libraries dean will be appointed in late spring 2026.

University Libraries play a central role in supporting research, teaching and learning across campus. This search presents an opportunity to shape the future of library services and resources in alignment with the university’s academic mission and its institutional priority of fostering excellence in research and creative work.
