CU, city and Downtown Boulder Partnership expand ambassador program
The University of Colorado Boulder, the city of Boulder and the Downtown Boulder Partnership are joining together to expand an ambassador program in the University Hill commercial district. This program builds on the success of the Downtown Boulder Ambassador initiative, which was established in 2021 and is focused on the downtown business district and Civic Area.
The Hill Ambassador Program will feature full-time ambassadors providing a year-round presence that focuses on clean and safe initiatives, as well as hospitality services for both businesses and visitors on the Hill. Ambassador responsibilities will include daily maintenance (graffiti removal, trash pick-up, etc.) as well as providing directions and helpful information to visitors and residents of the area.
“We know that the Hill brings together our students as well as members of the broader Boulder community, and this program will provide focused efforts to an area that is inextricably linked to our campus,” said Chancellor Philip DiStefano. “This ambassador program is a true collaboration between the university and our partners throughout Boulder, working together, to come up with solutions that benefit our broader community.”
The ambassadors will also strive to contribute to a more positive visitor experience by reporting unwanted activity and disturbances directly to authorities and deterring unwanted behavior to the best of their abilities by offering information on city ordinances and community resources for those in need.
“The city of Boulder supports the ambassador program, and we’re delighted about the expansion in service and presence on University Hill,” said Cris Jones, interim director of the City of Boulder Community Vitality Department.
Community members as well as students are welcome to become ambassadors and can search available positions and apply through Block by Block using the 80302 zip code.
“We are excited to be partnering with CU and the city to expand the reach of the Downtown Boulder Ambassador Program,” said Chip, DBP's CEO. (Chip goes by a first name only.) “For the past two years, we've maintained a small presence on the Hill with a part-time ambassador and have seen many noticeable improvements. The full-time presence of the ambassadors is going to provide numerous benefits throughout the commercial district for business owners, residents and visitors alike.”
