Robin Wall Kimmerer, a scientist, MacArthur “genius grant” Fellow 2022, member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation and author of the 2022 Buffs One Read selection “Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants” will speak at the Boulder Theater on Thursday, December 1 from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Doors open at 10:30 a.m.

This free event is open to all students, faculty and staff. Instructors who are teaching the book or who are interested in the themes of “Braiding Sweetgrass” are encouraged to bring their classes to the event. 

A complimentary lunch catered by Tocabe: An American Indian Eatery will be served to everyone that pre-registers for the event.

The Buffs One Read program, now in its second year, aims to engage the campus in challenging conversations around diversity and inclusion and to advance understanding and action on issues of social justice. The book weaves scientific and indigenous knowledge to make the case that living on the earth is a reciprocal relationship in which other beings such as asters, turtles and sweetgrass are our companions, teachers and fellow travelers. 

Free copies of “Braiding Sweetgrass” are still available for first year students and can be picked up at the Technology Department of the campus bookstore. The rest of the CU Boulder community may borrow a physical copy, ebook or audiobook through the University Libraries.
