Four Ralphie handlers speak at a Buffalo Belles luncheon

With preparations beginning at Folsom Field, and Ralphie VI readying for her first run of 2022, another iconic CU Boulder institution is gearing up for the upcoming football season—the Buffalo Belles and Friends will kick off their 52nd year on Aug. 31.

The group was founded in 1970 by Martha Johnson as the Ladies Quarterback Club and has evolved into a popular way for women to learn more about all 17 of CU Boulder’s varsity sports, while also enjoying fellowship and having a lot of fun.

The Buffalo Belles host a weekly luncheon every Wednesday from Aug. 31 to Nov. 16 with a rotating roster of guest speakers that includes football coaches and players, as well as coaches and student-athletes from each of CU Boulder’s athletic programs and Athletic Department personnel, giving members a chance to gain a holistic perspective of CU Boulder Athletics.

Members also get the chance to meet and interact with a variety of coaches and student-athletes to learn about them on a more personal level. Lunches include door prizes and a vendor area with CU-themed gifts, including jewelry, holiday décor and clothing.

“For over half a century, the Buffalo Belles having been providing incredible support for the Colorado Buffaloes, and I can’t wait to kick off another season,” said Kimbirly Orr, president of the Buffalo Belles and Friends. “Their passion and fervor for CU Boulder Athletics is unrivaled; and in addition to providing invaluable support to our programs and student-athletes, the lunches are always insightful and a lot of fun!”

This year, the Belles will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Title IX with additional presentations each week from former athletes who will discuss how Title IX shaped their time at CU and their lives after they left athletics.

Membership is $50 annually, plus $30 in advance for each lunch they want to attend ($35 at the door). All proceeds go to the Martha Johnson Endowment, which benefits CU Boulder Athletic Scholarships.
