Exploring Ancient Mexican Peoples & Ruins (ANTH 4300)

Learn about the impressive history of the peoples of Mexico prior to colonization by visiting ancient archaeological sites, including ongoing excavation and research of a 1,200-year-old city. Discover the diverse cultures of the Zapotec, Mixtec, and Chatino peoples of Oaxaca, Mexico. Study with Professor Arthur Joyce, whose research focuses on the pre-Columbian peoples of Mesoamerica particularly surrounding issues of power, political dynamics and landscape.

Spend the summer in Norway! Earn 3 credits in two weeks and explore Norwegian culture and history through museums, concerts and castles. Experience stunning geography in a cross-country train ride and participate in the famous Bergen International Festival. Conservation & Indigenous Peoples in Tanzania (ANTH 4020)

Students explore remote conservation areas around the Serengeti and coastal communities over three weeks in Tanzania on this Education Abroad program. Learn more about indigenous peoples and conservation in one of the most beautiful and biologically important regions of the world, study political ecology, culture and development while living amongst indigenous groups such as the Maasai and Hadzabe people. Conservation Biology & Practice in Brazil (EBIO/ENVS 4340)

Immerse yourself in conservation biology from the comfort of your home and earn four credits in two and a half weeks in this virtual Global Seminar. Learn about Brazil's other tropical forest—the Atlantic Forest, a threatened center of faunal and floral biodiversity. Participate in individual and group projects related to on-going, fully operational wildlife and landscape conservation programs, coupled with socioeconomic development. Daily synchronous class sessions will connect you with IPÊ's research programs in the Pontal do Paranapanema region of western São Paulo state, Iguaçu Falls National Park (Brazil), and other sites throughout Brazil. Guest lecturers will be IPÊ research scientists and government environmental agency personnel. Study with Timothy Kittel, who has more than 35 years of professional experience in global comparative ecosystem and climate geography.

Explore social justice and global development in the context of Senegal's rich cultural heritage while collaborating with a Senegalese activist theater troupe. Discover this vibrant capital city which sits at a geographic, cultural and linguistic crossroads and is deeply immersed in global histories of African, Islamic and Francophone cultures. Learn from Professor Brian Valente-Quinn, who has conducted extensive fieldwork in Senegal specifically about theater. No language background required.
