The Center for Research Data & Digital Scholarship (CRDDS) is hosting a virtual Research Data Bootcamp for graduate students, August 3 - 5, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event will be held over Zoom. "As data-based research becomes a common practice, skills in computational thinking, data management and analysis are increasingly important for applied researchers," said Jordan Wrigley, data librarian for the University Libraries and CRDDS, "the Graduate Student Research Data Bootcamp will provide incoming and continuing graduate students with a gentle introduction to data and programming-related research tools that will increase their access to cutting-edge methods as they begin their programs and research. No previous experience in coding or programming is required and all skill levels are welcome!"
"This bootcamp will cover multiple topics, including reproducible research (especially using containerization tools such as Docker); collaboration and version control (using Git and Github); data analysis and visualization fundamentals in Python and R; and an overview of publishing platforms, impact and scholarly communication," said Aditya Ranganath, data librarian for the University Libraries and CRDDS. "And students will have the option of completing an assessment exercise that certifies competency in the covered topics."
Those who complete the workshop will receive a micro-credential digital badge, allow them to showcase skills, competencies or achievements gained through learning experiences.
The registration deadline is Moday, July 26.
