The Education Abroad Office would love to help you study or intern abroad during your time at CU.
Why study abroad?
Sip a cappuccino in Italy, hike Machu Picchu in Peru, snorkel in Australia or explore the streets of Morocco. CU Boulder offers 450 programs in over 70 countries on all seven continents. Immerse yourself in a new country, gain a new perspective and improve your job prospects.
Can I earn credit?
Yes! Plan early and speak with your academic advisor to see how study abroad can fit into your degree plan. Earn credit toward your major, minor, general education requirements or electives to stay on track for graduation.
What year should I go abroad?
You are eligible to study abroad anytime after your first year at CU. Junior year is the most common time to go abroad, but other students decide to go sophomore year, senior year, or during the summer. Speak to your academic advisor to determine the best time for you.
How long can I study abroad for?
Most students choose to study abroad for a semester. Others choose to go abroad during the summer on programs ranging from 2-12 weeks in length. Some students even choose to stay for a year, or to study abroad multiple times.
How much does it cost?
Program cost varies by location and term. Your CU Boulder scholarships and financial aid will be applied to your program costs and there are many additional scholarships available.
What are my first steps?
Your first step is to talk with your academic advisor to see how study abroad will fit into your graduation plan. Next, you can visit our website (abroad.colorado.edu) and complete "Abroad 101” a 30-minute intro course on Canvas to get an overview of the process. You can also search for programs.
Finally, sign up for a zoom appointment with our advisors to discuss your situation and help you to find the best program. We are open for remote advising Monday–Friday 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Deadlines are early in the term prior to the one you want to go abroad, but it’s always good to apply early. We look forward to working with you.
