transfer studentsAs you transition to a new university, you have a bag of tools to help you succeed. Remember that you probably have some hidden knowledge to make your transition a positive one. Here are some strengths you can take advantage of as a transfer student. 

Finding what works for you

No matter where you are coming from, you may already know a lot about being a college student. For example, as a transfer student, you’ve maybe already found some study strategies that work for you. You know that signing up for classes as soon as you are allowed to gives you a better chance of getting the schedule you want. You might have also figured out already that having a routine can be very helpful. 

Taking everything you have learned from your previous college experience and applying it this time around is a great way to set you up for success. Be confident that everything you’ve done in the past has helped you prepare for a smooth transition here at CU.

It’s about community

Starting fresh is exciting and you might have already figured out that the more you get involved and try new things, the more likely you are to find your people. Whether you got involved at your last institution or didn’t get a chance to find your community, think about the things you're passionate about and find a way to connect to those things at CU. It can feel intimidating to join a club or group, but don't let that stop you from trying! 

Resources are available

Remember that there are a variety of resources available to you. Here are some reasons to consider seeking resources:

  • It connects you to campus. Using the resources available to you gives you the chance to connect with your new campus. Whether it’s to learn more about the campus or connect with fellow Buffs, it’s a great way to engage at CU.
  • It eases the transition. Taking advantage of your resources can help ease your transition at CU and help make CU your new home. 
  • Advance in your academics. Whether you want to excel in your writing or find a tutor, utilizing campus resources can help you excel in all aspects of your academics.

Opportunities are endless

As you settle into a new routine and class schedule, you have the power to expand your opportunities at CU. Whether you transferred for a better fit of academic courses, study abroad programs, the views of the Flatirons or any other reason, CU has many opportunities for you.

Attend National Transfer Student Week (NTSW): National Transfer Student Week is a great place to meet transfer Buffs, attend transfer student events and get to know campus! Events include:

Visit the student events website and check out activities you might be interested in. You may be exposed to things that you may not have had the chance to do at your previous institution, and it can be a great way to explore new things and meet new people along the way. 

It’s your fresh start

CU isn’t just your school, it’s your new home. Give yourself the chance to pursue or discover a career field that truly sparks your interest. Always remember that as difficult as the transition may feel, you’ve got what it takes to succeed, so go make this semester your best one yet.
