This week brings Suicide Prevention Week events, a law talk with Professor Heidi Brown, career fair and résumé workshops, an Education Abroad virtual expo, a paint by the numbers DIY Night and more.

Suicide Prevention Week 

There are a variety of events this week to learn about suicide prevention and how to help a fellow Buff: 

  • Sept. 8: Learn how to help a friend you're worried about with the help of our student Health Buffs at the Health Hut.
  • Sept. 9: Send messages of hope and start your journaling practice with wellness prompts.
  • Sept. 10: Attend the Ask the Question presentation to demystify ways to support other people while learning means of preventing suicide. Attending this session will help prepare you to act when you are needed most.
  • Download the powerful documentary The Ripple Effect to watch at your convenience, and register for the open discussion session on Sept. 11

DIY Night: Paint by numbers

All you crafty Buffs out there: Join the Center for Student Involvement for DIY Night! Pick up the materials for a craft, then tune in to watch the virtual craft night together. Each participant will need to RSVP in advance and coordinate a time to pick up their craft kit from CSI (UMC 330). Limited to the first 15–20 students to register, so register now!

Zen Meditation

6 p.m. Zoom
Interested in learning to meditate? Looking to unwind at the end of a busy day? Already have a practice and hoping to find others who share your passion for zazen? Each week, senior instructor in the Program for Writing and Rhetoric and 12-year zazen practitioner Sigman Myoshin Byrd leads a meditation, sitting for 25 minutes, followed by a brief discussion. If you are new to sitting meditation, log on at 5:45 p.m.
