An exploration of Versatile PhD, Imagine PhD and LinkedIn, this workshop will help you better understand the tools at your fingertips to find the job you want both inside and outside of academia.

Peer2Peer webinar: Exploring Opportunities in Science Policy and Advocacy

This live webinar will define science policy and advocacy and provide information about finding science policy fellowships and jobs. Graduate students and postdocs who are interested in learning how to apply research and evidence to policy decision-making and what careers in policy would look like should attend this webinar.

Communicating Science Effectively to Laypeople

This workshop, for postdocs and graduate students, is focused on communicating science to nonscientists. Katy Human, communications director for CIRES will share insights on how to ensure your audience easily understands the information you are providing. Bring your laptop to follow the presentation. Lunch will be provided. Registration is required via the CU Events Calendar by clicking "I'm Interested."

Build Your Base: Goals, Habits, and Accountability

Held every Wednesday 9–10 a.m., this seminar is designed for early-career graduate students—master’s and PhDs in your first or second year—to help you set goals, manage your time efficiently and maintain good writing habits. Join in Regent 1B27.

Feel Better Fast, every Thursday

This CAPS workshop is designed specifically for graduate students. It focuses on mindfulness techniques and coping strategies. You will learn how to calm yourself in stressful situations, take a step back from your thoughts and make decisions that feel right for you. All workshops are free, confidential and unlimited for students. Students do not need to be a CAPS client or complete CAPS paperwork to attend.


Academic deadlines

April 1: Update your PhD dissertation title

PhD students who wish to update their dissertation title must do so by April 1 through the graduation application in the student portal. The dissertation title will appear in the commencement program and on your transcript after your degree has been awarded.

April 7: Complete PhD dissertation defense or final examination to graduate

Doctoral students must complete the PhD dissertation defense or final examination by this date in order to graduate in May. Notice of the examination must be provided to the Graduate School by your academic unit two weeks before the exam on an examination report form. 

April 14: Submit dissertation and signature page (PhD students)

PhD students must submit the dissertation and signature page by this deadline. The dissertation must be submitted and approved electronically by the end of the business day. A signature page with two signatures must also be turned in to the Graduate School office by this deadline. Students whose dissertations or signature pages are received after this deadline must apply to graduate at the following semester's commencement.

April 14: Complete thesis defense or final exam (master’s students)

Master's students must complete the thesis defense or final examination by this date. Notice of the examination must be provided to the Graduate School by your academic unit two weeks before the exam on an examination report form. Certain units do not require an exam for non-thesis students. Please contact your department with any questions.

April 21: Submit thesis and signature page (master’s thesis students)

Master's thesis plan students must submit the thesis and signature page by this deadline. The thesis must be submitted and approved electronically by the end of the business day. A signature page with two signatures must also be turned in to the Graduate School office by this deadline. Students whose dissertations or signature pages are received after this deadline must apply to graduate at the following semester's commencement.
