February 19: NSF CAREER Commit-to-Submit Writing Program Kickoff
Are you READY to submit an NSF CAREER proposal in 2020? The NSF CAREER Commit-to-Submit Writing Program can help get you there.
The purpose of this workshop is to begin thinking about your readiness as a PI to submit an NSF CAREER Award proposal for the mid-July 2020 deadline. It is the first step in the spring schedule leading up to one-on-one writing and proposal development coaching, and, hopefully, the assembly of a supportive peer writing group. The workshop will be led by RIO Proposal Writer Diane Carillo and will feature a panel of campus NSF CAREER awardees. Advance questions and areas of focus are welcome; there is an option to include this information on the workshop registration form. Broader impacts support will also be a key component of the Commit-to-Submit program, with working sessions on May 1 and June 5.
March 4: Proposal Budgeting 101
Stressed about developing budgets for proposals? The Proposal Budgeting 101 workshop can help. Please join the Research & Innovation Office (RIO) and the Office of Contracts and Grants (OCG) for a Proposal Budgeting 101 workshop for externally funded research, scholarship and creative work projects.
Senior OCG staff will provide an overview of the budget process for faculty and administrators looking to understand budget basics, including the federal and university policies that guide budget development. Following the presentation, there will be an opportunity for Q&A.
March 11: NSF Broader Impacts: Tips from a Former NSF Program Director
Broader impacts are one of two criteria used by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to evaluate every grant proposal. Join former NSF Program Director and Associate Dean for Research, Massimo Ruzzene, as well as faculty and staff with extensive expertise in broader impacts work, to discuss this key element of proposals. Campus specialists will share resources and guidance to help you plan effective integration of broader impacts activities into your research, and senior faculty from a variety of departments will share their experiences reviewing broader impacts statements on NSF panels.
