8 things to do this weekend: Take a break from studying

This weekend brings Feel Good Fridays meditation, a student film festival with free pizza, finals free week at The Rec, Fiske’s Season of Light show and plenty more study break opportunities.

Friday, Dec. 13

Super Surprise Study Sesh

  9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  UMC, third floor
Join for a day of studying and fun: Food, prizes and more will be given away each hour! Stay all day or stop by for a couple of minutes to get a studying boost and learn about getting more involved on campus.

Feel Good Fridays

  12:15–12:45 p.m.  CU Art Museum
This drop-in workshop is an opportunity to be led through a powerful guided meditation to undo stress, soothe the nervous system and feel better. Participants are encouraged to bring materials for personal comfort that will aid meditation (e.g., yoga mat, a small pillow or cushion). Please arrive on time, as there is no late admittance.

DIY holiday gifts

  1–3 p.m.  Museum of Natural History, BioLounge
Take a break from studying and drop in to the BioLounge for a crafty afternoon to make handmade, heartfelt gifts for everyone on your list.

Student film festival, free pizza

  5 p.m.  Museum of Natural History, BioLounge
Join a special free screening of eight back-to-back short video stories highlighting the final productions of students from the Art of Science Communication: Branding Climate Change class. The projects will be evaluated by a panel of expert judges. Pizza will be served, and short group presentations and films will start at 5 p.m.

Finals Free Week at The Rec

  Dec. 13–18  See hours Rec Center
Treat yourself to a workout and blow off some steam at The Rec during finals free week! There are a variety of activities you can choose from including free fitness classes, bouldering in the climbing gym, climbing shoe rentals and ice skate rentals.


Saturday, Dec. 14

UMC Study Stops

  9:45–10:45 a.m., 12:45–1:45 p.m., 4:45–5:45 p.m.  UMC, second floor atrium
Need a break? Maybe a snack? Or just a refuel of coffee or tea? Visit one of the UMC Finals Week Study Stops sessions. Free for CU Boulder students with a Buff OneCard. Sessions are offered Friday, Sunday and Monday, too.

Visit exhibits at CU Art Museum

  11 a.m. to 5 p.m.  CU Art Museum
Take a study break and immerse yourself in amazing art right on campus. Currently on view: Art Elements: Materials, Motive and Meaning presents an in-depth look at materials and techniques used to create artworks, inspired by the research of CU faculty and curators; Body Language: Picturing People considers how the pose, the gesture and the body in motion are used by artists to convey meaning.


Sunday, Dec. 15

Season of Light

  Noon, 4:30 p.m.  Fiske Planetarium  $10
Season of Light explores the reasons humans are so fascinated with lighting up our lives during the December holiday season, tracing the history and development of many of the world's most endearing holiday customs.
