5 Reasons to Attend: Buffs vs. San Diego

November 13, 2019 | Men's Basketball

BOULDER - 'Tis the season for hitting the slopes, turkey carving and slam dunks, brought to you by the Colorado Buffaloes. This time of year strongly resonates with the student community by bringing them together for a season of joy and watching McKinley Wright break some ankles. Our Buffs will be taking on the San Diego Toreros and here are five things you should know before coming to the game.

1. Home Opener
The Toreros (1-2) are taking on the Buffs at the CU Events Center on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 8 p.m. The Buffs are quite familiar with San Diego, but they aren't fond memories. The Toreros have beaten Colorado in each of the last two seasons, a fact that doesn't sit well with coach Tad Boyle and the Buffs. Colorado (1-0) is looking to build momentum off of its international Pac-12 China Game against ASU, which they won, 81-71. Boyle looks to continue his home opener hot streak, as he has never lost one in his career with CU.

2. $500 Half-Court Shot
Don't be fooled by the nature of this event. Yes, we want you there supporting CU Men's Basketball, but why not come for the chance to shoot for $500? This challenge is limited to students only to showcase this impressive talent that requires you to hurl a basketball from half-court. Ridiculous celebrations are always welcome (I mean, come on you just won $500). Students may sign up at the marketing table on the concourse, which is behind the student section and at the top of section 15. Let it be clear that this is NOT a scam or a catfish like your most recent Tinder date. If a student doesn't make the shot, then $100 (not of your money) will be added to the pot. We will be doing this throughout the season at each home game to put together a hefty reward and a reason to look for the end of the rainbow.

3. Raising Cane's Giveaway
Get there early. I get it, a Saturday night usually ends by spending money on Pete's or Boss Lady, so why not get Raising Cane's for free? That's right. There will be a chicken giveaway for students at the beginning of the game. So again, I repeat, get there early.

4. $1 Student Tickets
If I haven't convinced you to attend Saturday's game by now, then there has to be another reason other than not wanting to participate in a $500 half-court shot or free Raising Cane's. I understand, I'm a student, working with a student budget. There is something that may change your mind, and that's $1 student tickets. By presenting your Buff OneCard at the door you will be admitted for $1, which is equivalent to ordering a cheesy bean and rice burrito from Taco Bell, and we all know the burrito is a bad idea. As ABBA always says, "Take a Chance," and show your student pride at the CU basketball game.

5. No. 25 in the AP Poll
These guys can ball out. Colorado is ranked No. 25 in the AP Poll and I'm sure we could climb the rankings with some support from the fans. I want to encourage all students to come to the games and reap the benefits of Colorado's culture and what is going to be an awesome basketball season.
