Mass shootings: What science says about an American epidemic

Who is a mass shooter? And what can we do to stop him or her?

Are the news media doing a good job covering mass shootings?

In this week's episode of the Brainwaves podcast, we'll explore these questions and also look at a new tool aimed at stopping a different kind of epidemic—firearm suicides.

We talk to Beverly Kingston with the University of Colorado Boulder’s Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence; Malcolm Graham, the brother of a shooting victim; Liz Skewes, journalism department chair at CU Boulder’s College of Media, Communication and Information and author of an upcoming book on school shootings; and Sara Brandspigel at the Colorado School of Public Health’s Program for Injury Prevention, Education & Research, who helped create Colorado's Gun Storage Map.
