Apply to teach a First-Year Seminar

The Office of Undergraduate Education is encouraging instructor-level and tenured/tenure-track faculty from all colleges and departments to participate in the 2020-21 academic year First-Year Seminar (FYS) program.

First-Year Seminars are academically rigorous 3-credit courses, limited to 19 undergraduate students in their first year at CU Boulder. Their purpose is to engage new students intellectually, strengthen core academic skills, and provide opportunities for faculty mentoring.

Faculty from all units and colleges are invited to propose a seminar on a topic of their choice for fall 2020/spring 2021. Innovative and multi-disciplinary topics are encouraged, and the FYS program offers possibilities for linking courses across disciplines, or for incorporating a brief study-abroad experience. A list of current seminars can be found online.

For more information and the online proposal form, please visit the FYS Information for Faculty page on the Office of Undergraduate Education website.

Proposals should be submitted no later than Oct. 1, 2019. For additional questions, please contact First-Year Seminar program Director Erica Ellingson at erica.ellingson@colorado.edu.
