The Trump administration announced it would end “people-to-people” and cruise ship trips to Cuba. CU Boulder expert Kaifa Roland is available for media interviews.

Roland, an associate professor of anthropology, studies the Cuban tourism economy. She says limiting tourism serves to strengthen the communist regime. She is also fluent in Spanish.
“Limiting the number of Americans who travel to Cuba for people-to-people exchanges negatively affects the emerging self-employment sector that constitutes one of the few groups with the power to press for socio-economic changes within Cuba,” Roland said.
