Daniel Senior outside Norlin Library

The University Libraries employ more than 200 hundred students in our five locations, and 52 of them will be graduating this Thursday. Today we would like to highlight Daniel Senior, graduating with a degree in integrative physiology and a history minor. Senior worked in two different departments in the University Libraries over the last two years, and each of his supervisors described him the same way: “Dan always goes above and beyond.”

Senior came to CU Boulder after serving in the Air Force, drawn by the school’s reputation and the outdoor opportunities. Now he is considering a career in security management or with the Department of Defense. He says he got his exceptional work ethic from his dad.

“I’m always looking up to him and trying to follow his dedication and service to his community,” said Senior.

Joy Bergeron, the mail and supply manager for the Libraries, describes Senior as the best kind of employee you could hope for. “What I really appreciate about Dan is his natural sense of responsibility,” said Bergeron. “He is someone I came to trust and rely on due to his expertise, consistency and work ethic.”

“Also, his positive attitude is contagious,” continued Bergeron. “His sense of humor and approachability made our work unit a fun place to be.”

Even with all those attributes, starting college at age 25 wasn’t easy for Senior.

“It was quite a transition from the military to college,” said Senior. “I was used to working 12 to 14 hour days. In some ways I was bored and not challenged enough, which is why I decided to get a job.”

Senior recommends the Libraries to work-study students who want a job that doesn’t follow them home, so they can focus on school. “I’ve enjoyed working at the Libraries so much that I talked my buddy into applying,” said Senior “Now we work together here just like we did at Malmstrom Air Force Base."

According to Joanne McIntyre, Senior’s supervisor in the Scholarly Resource Development department, Senior had a unique perspective on their workflow and was able to make them even more efficient.

“He’s an outstanding employee,” said McIntyre. “We know he’ll be very successful in his future endeavors.”
