University Libraries now offers mailing materials to CU Boulder faculty, staff and students by U.S. Mail, as a pilot project for the 2018-19 academic year.
When reserving materials online, user will find a new option in the drop-down menu: “Mail OFF CAMPUS!” A text form will show on the request page, where you can enter your address.
Libraries staff will use that information to confirm the address already in our system, pull the materials and then package them. Materials will be mailed using Media Mail, which can take slightly longer than first class mail but is much cheaper.
Returning materials remains the user’s responsibility. We will include a return label with each mailing, but this will not include return postage. Within Colorado, users will be able to return mailed materials to any academic library in the state.
We anticipate that mailing materials will be most appreciated by faculty on sabbatical, distance education students, and users with accessibility-issues that make it difficult to visit the libraries in person.
When materials are received in the mail, a feedback card will be included. As this is a one-year pilot program, we need faculty, staff and students who use the new service to let us know whether it meets their needs or how it can be improved.
Campus delivery of library materials is already available to anyone with a campus mailbox by selecting “My Campus Box” on the drop-down menu. The new “Mail OFF CAMPUS!” option will allow us to expand our services to those who otherwise might have been unable to access library materials.
