The hearings are open to the public and no prior registration is necessary.

Other events for the week include:

“It is our privilege to welcome the work of the commission to the University of Colorado Boulder, as this opportunity will provide the campus, and Colorado more broadly, exposure to the important work the commission does to mitigate human rights violations in the Americas,” said Colorado Law Dean S. James Anaya. “Attendees will have the chance to witness human rights advocacy in action, gleaning a deeper understanding of the complex issues affecting humanity today, and learning how inter-governmental organizations, such as the Organization of American States, work to address these issues.”

The Inter-American Commission holds several sessions a year, an opportunity that brings together hundreds of human rights defenders as well as government delegations constituted by high-level human rights officials, academics, and others. The upcoming 169th Period of Sessions will be the first time the commission has held public hearings in the United States outside of its Washington, D.C. offices and the first time hearings have been held at an American law school.
