April 30–May 2: Uncommon Histories: PhD Student Showcase

Join PhD students from CMCI's Department of Critical Media Practices; Anthropology; and Sociology in an exploration of various topics through media art. 


May 1: Interdisciplinary Data Consult Hours

Drop in to meet with consultants affiliated with the Center for Research Data and Digital Scholarship (CRDDS) to ask your burning questions related to digital scholarship research, data management, data analysis and visualization, data workflows, statistics and high-performance computing.  


May 2: “The New Normal: Conflict, Polarization, and Incivility” with political commentator Eric Sondermann

Join an evening of conversation about local, regional and national politics. The free event is with Eric Sondermann, a high-profile, Denver-based political commentator, writer, pundit, civic leader, entrepreneur and consultant who is regularly called upon as a go-to source of independent political insight by a laundry list of media outlets across the state and the nation. 


May 2: AIA Lecture Series: “What's New at Chaco? New Questions, New Answers”

Join Dr. Steve Lekson at the CU Museum of Natural History for a free AIA Lecture. A spate of innovative research over the past ten years has discovered much that is new and illuminating about Chaco Canyon, New Mexico, the 11th century Puebloan regional center. 


May 2: LASP Public Lecture: “Parker Solar Probe, The First Mission to Our Nearest Star”

Later this summer, NASA’s Parker Solar Probe spacecraft will begin a historic mission to our nearest star, the Sun. By measuring particles, electric fields, and magnetic fields, Parker Solar Probe will strive to answer big questions about the sources and variability of the solar wind. Learn more.


May 3: “Science and Society–Welcome to the Second Digital Age!”

Over the next 20 years, developing technologies will dramatically shake the structure of human society. In the transportation sector, self-driving cars are poised to bring about a post-driver society, while re-usable rockets and the Hyperloop will make any destination on Earth less than an hour’s travel away. 


May 3: CU After Lunch discussion forum

CU After Lunch is a monthly forum bringing together OCG, SPA and department research administrators on current topics of interest. Topic: David Cavalieri, Justin Mack and Linda Morris will be presenting on International Travel. 


May 4: Faculty SPACE Lunch

The Faculty Leadership Institute's monthly lunch series is based on a combination of socializing and discussing topics of importance to faculty, a chance to bring faculty together on a regular basis and help build the community that many feel is lacking on the campus.
