For years, our students have been applying their engineering skills to creative and challenging team projects and presenting their work in department exhibitions.
In our 125th year at CU Engineering, we’re going bigger.
On April 27, more than 140 student teams will combine for a collegewide Engineering Projects Expo, highlighting dozens of cutting-edge innovations from our soon-to-be-graduates in one huge celebration at Coors Events Center.
"The expo is a great opportunity for community members, future engineers and hiring managers looking for new talent to see what we're up to at CU Engineering," Dean Bobby Braun said.
Senior capstone projects range from the whimsical to the life-altering. Past and present students have worked on everything from unmanned aerial systems to locate sperm whales to wearable devices that monitor heart conditions.
Many are sponsored by industry or academic clients, while others are entirely students’ creations. The projects rarely fit neatly into a single field of study – a testament to the interdisciplinary work happening in engineering.
“Capstone projects are a critical aspect of our undergraduate curriculum," Braun said. "This experience brings our students together to develop innovative solutions to real-world challenges of importance to industry sponsors, serving as the final step in their preparation before entering the professional world."
The expo is a celebration of our students’ hard work, the power of imagination and the capacity for engineering to solve the world’s toughest problems – and you’re invited to join us!

Event coordinator Victoria Lanaghan, along with staff at the Idea Forge and throughout the college, are preparing an incredible event, complete with demonstrations, awards and concessions.
“It’s a great way to make students aware of the possibilities that exist in engineering,” Lanaghan says.
