Children perform Shakespeare in costume on stage

Shakespeare's Sprites is a playful introduction to the Bard for children ages 6 to 9—just one of several summer camps offered on campus.

Shakespeare's Sprites is one of many campuswide summer residential and day-camp offerings. Have older kids? Check out Camp Shakespeare sessions for children ages 9–18.

Others programs are designed for budding scientists, aerospace engineers and musicians. Still, more focus on leadership skill-building, the language and culture of ancient Rome, college preparation and more.

Seven-year-old Bowe Victoria Schlansker, who participated in the program in 2016 and recently appeared in a Saturday Night Live skit, says “playing acting games with the other kids” was her favorite part of the camp.

At Shakespeare’s Sprites, Schlansker learned stage combat using pool noodles and performed the role of Helena in a scene from A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The camp also introduces Elizabethan costumes, period insults, Renaissance songs and lively scene work. Each week culminates in a final showing for family and friends, and tuition includes one ticket to attend a Colorado Shakespeare Festival production.

Schlansker's mom, Angie Nevarez, grew up in Boulder and “loved going to the Shakespeare festival every summer.” Nevarez advises other parents: “Sign up! Sprites is a wonderful way to introduce and inspire a love for the hilarious stories of Shakespeare at a young age.”
