If you go

Who: Students
What: Book reading, talk with David George Haskell
When: Friday, April 6, noon to 1:30 p.m.

Haskell will give a lecture April 3, which is open to the public, and will return April 6 to speak exclusively with students about his nonfiction writing, the humanities and the sciences.

Haskell has won acclaim for his eloquent writing and deep engagement with the natural world. In this student event, he will speak personally about what experiences inspired his interest in the humanities and the sciences; how human history, ecology and well-being are intimately intertwined with the lives of forests and trees; and offer advice and encouragement for the next generation of scientists and writers.

There will be a book signing immediately following the talk.

Haskell's book, The Forest Unseen, was the recipient of numerous honors including the National Academies' Best Book Award for 2013 and finalist for the 2013 Pulitzer Prize in nonfiction. His second book, The Songs of Trees, recently has been awarded the 2018 John Burroughs Medal for distinguished natural history writing. Previous winners include Rachel Carson, Aldo Leopold and other amazing voices.
