NEW ORLEANS – Colorado head cross country coach Mark Wetmore has been named the 2017 USTFCCCA Mountain Region Women's Coach of the Year, while sophomore Joe Klecker was named the USTFCCCA Mountain Region Men's Athlete of the Year.

Wetmore guided the top-ranked Colorado women to their fifth straight region championship as the Buffs bested second-rated New Mexico, 62-70. The Buffs also captured their third consecutive, fourth overall, Pac-12 Conference title on Oct. 27.

This is the ninth time Wetmore has earned the honor for coaching the women, while it's his 21st overall honor as he has been named the men's region coach of the year 12 times.

Klecker won the men's NCAA Mountain Region title in 30:13.6. He also placed runner-up at the Pac-12 Championships and was ninth at the NCAA Pre-National Invitational. He is the first Buff since Billy Nelson in 2005 to win a men's individual region crown.
