Just 10 days after Boulder-born Shalane Flanagan won the New York City Marathon in new state-of-the-art Nike racing flats University of Colorado Boulder researchers have published the first peer-reviewed study to confirm that the shoes live up to their name, reducing the amount of energy used to run by 4 percent.

The shoes, says senior author of the study Rodger Kram, are the most efficient shoes his team has ever studied.
