In lead-up to fall blood drive, CU Boulder has already saved more than 105,000 lives

The CU Boulder campus community’s participation in Staff Council blood drives has saved or enhanced 105,657 lives since 1973, when the Boulder Campus Staff Council started hosting Bonfils blood drives.

This wonderful partnership directly impacts the CU Boulder community, Denver metro region and state of Colorado, as well as areas in need after a disaster. Since this time last year, Staff Council has partnered to collect 1,285 units and as a result saved or enhanced 3,855 lives.

The November Blood Drive will take place at the Rec Center Ice Rink Overlook Room at the following dates and times:

  •   Tuesday, Nov. 14, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  •   Wednesday, Nov. 15, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  •   Thursday, Nov. 16, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The Rocky Mountain Showdown Blood Drive in August saw an excellent turn out, with CU Boulder coming through with the win. Most of the blood units donated went to Hurricane Harvey victims in Houston, Texas.

The blood drive chair Alisha Bennett said, “On behalf of Staff Council and the Blood Drive Committee, we are thrilled to have been partnering with Bonfils Blood Systems for 44 years and saving more than 105,657 lives! We are committed to the Boulder campus and the entire CU community, and we look forward to further impacting our community during the November blood drive.”

To continue to save lives and positively impact our community, Staff Council is encouraging campus members to participate in the upcoming blood drive Nov. 14–16. All donors will receive a free T-shirt.

Starting at 9 a.m. each day, the Bonfils Blood Drive will take place at the Ice Rink Overlook Room at the Student Recreation Center. Walk-ins are welcome, or donors may schedule an appointment by emailing lauren_thompson@bonfils.org.

Additional blood drives are scheduled for 2018: Feb. 6–8, April 10–12 and June 19–20.
