Happy Halloween, Buffs! As we ring in November this week (and begin the countdown to fall break), keep in mind that it’s an excellent time to get out and take advantage of the many fun activities, cultural engagement events and opportunities to meet new friends that CU Boulder offers.

This week brings to campus film screenings, a Procrastination Busters workshop, a Día de los Muertos celebration, International Coffee Hour, the CU Theatre production of A Doll House by Henrik Ibsen, a Left Right Tim comedy improv show, movie night with The Herd, a performance by African Highlife Ensemble and a night of extreme bowling at The Connection.

If procrastination is still an impedance to your academic success this late in the semester, then be sure to nip that in the bud with the SASC’s Procrastination Busters workshop. This workshop is free and open to all students and will be held from 11 to 11:50 a.m. in Fleming 170.

Wednesday, Nov. 1

Día de los Muertos Celebration

Come and celebrate the Day of the Dead, which honors both the living and the dead, with UMAS and MEXA. There will be a plethora of activities you can participate in, including face painting from 5 to 6 p.m. at the UMC across from the Alfred Packer Grill; a procession honoring loved ones starting at 6:15 p.m. at the UMC fountains; and a "Chili Pot" from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Flatirons Room on the C4C third floor, where you can learn about the history of Día de los Muertos and try your hand at decorating sugar skulls and making paper flowers. All these events are free and open to all.

Thursday, Nov. 2

Thule Tuvale screening

Come and catch this incredible documentary about two places—Thule, Greenland, and Tuvalu—that are already beginning to feel the large-scale effects of climate change: ice melt and sea-level rise, respectively. Heidi McCann will also be present to speak about climate change and the effects of a warming world. This event will be held from 6 to 8:15 p.m. in Benson 180. It is free and open to all, and there will be free food.

Friday, Nov. 3

International Coffee Hour

Meet up with CU Boulder’s international community for an hour of fun, socializing, trivia, prizes, free food and coffee. From 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the UMC across from the Alfred Packer Grill, you are all invited to meet some new friends, drink some coffee and show off your knowledge of the world.

A Doll House by Henrik Ibsen

Come catch talented members of the CU Theatre department in this wonderful play, in which a 19th-century girl must break out of bad relationships with her father and husband. A Doll House opens at 7:30 p.m. in the University Theatre. Tickets are $20.

Left Right Tim show

African Highlife Ensemble concert

Join the CU Boulder African Highlife Ensemble for a rhythmic, energizing concert of traditional music and dance from Ghana from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Grusin Music Hall of Imig. You, too, will want to get up and dance when you hear the drums and feel the beat. This event is free, and everyone is invited!

Extreme Bowling at The Connection

Extreme bowling takes the traditional sport and mixes it with multi-colored pins, black lights, rocking music and a disco ball. From 7 p.m. onward, you can play and compete for prizes at The Connection. Don’t miss out on this elevated chance to prove your bowling prowess.
