LSU's Broussard To Lead Buff Club, Athletic Fundraising Efforts

September 01, 2017 | General, Buff Club

Will Begin October 1

                BOULDER (Sept. 1) — Ben Broussard, the vice president for development for Louisiana State University's Tiger Athletic Foundation for the last seven years, has been hired in a similar capacity at the University of Colorado, school officials announced Friday.

                Broussard will serve as an assistant vice chancellor of advancement and associate athletic director overseeing the Buff Club, athletic director Rick George and vice chancellor for advancement Deb Coffin jointly announced.  Broussard has served as vice president for development at LSU since 2010.

                Broussard replaces Kurt Gulbrand to head the department's fundraising efforts; Gulbrand left CU in July after more than five years in the post when he was named senior associate athletic director for development at the University of Tennessee.  Broussard will join the university on October 1.

                As vice president for development at LSU, Broussard accomplished these and other goals:

  • Developed and implemented marketing and sales strategy that led to the sale of over $45 million in premium seat inventory;
  • Planned and executed a strategy that raised over $90 million philanthropically over the past four years for the needs of LSU;
  • Cultivated the relationship to secure a $40 million planned gift for the benefit of LSU Engineering and LSU Athletics;
  • Designed and executed the Preservation of Tiger Stadium campaign to raise over $12 million to refurbish, repair and improve Tiger Stadium in one year; and
  • Implemented a plan that led to his team raising over $12 million for the construction of a state of the art nutrition center for student-athletes in 18 months.
                George was impressed with Broussard's fundraising track record and his ability to lead and put processes, goals and objectives in place.

                "His leadership abilities are terrific," George said. "He will add a lot to our department and we're excited for him to get here.  He is the perfect fit for us."

                "I am excited and honored to be joining the Colorado family and to help make a positive impact in Boulder," Broussard said.  "Deb and Rick have great teams in place and I hope that my addition can continue the positive momentum.  I look forward to meeting the donors and supporters of this great university."

                First established in the late 1950s, the Buff Club's purpose is to secure the philanthropic funding that directly supports CU Athletics in its mission to deliver a world-class and comprehensive student-athlete experience.  The organization "connects donors' passions with the vision and priorities of the department by leveraging our professional expertise in a uniquely personal way."

                George said the Buff Club has done a "tremendous job in raising funds for the Athletic Department for scholarships, programmatic needs and endowments," and he looks forward to Broussard leading up the team that has been instrumental in CU's recent "Drive to 105" that has raised over $100 million in capital funds and endowments.

                While funded by the advancement office, George said, "This role is extremely important to the overall success of our department."

                Coffin praised Broussard's vision for success at CU.

                "Our athletic director has an incredible vision in support of our student athletes and the university and this is a prime opportunity for us to draw on Ben's extensive experience in fundraising for LSU," she said.

                Prior to his current post at LSU, Broussard served as its director of development from 2006 to 2010, and as a development officer from 2004 to 2006.  He graduated from LSU with a master's degree in science and a bachelor's degree in kinesiology.

                A campus committee worked with a national search firm to fill the position.
