Celebrating Pi Day March 14

Pi
Pi Day, the annual celebration of one of the most important numbers in mathematics, will take place on Tuesday, March 14. Pi Day is celebrated worldwide and highlights the significance of pi ("π"), which is often represented by the number 3.1459 and represents the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. Mathematicians have calculated the exact value of π well beyond one trillion digits.

Divya Vernerey, an instructor in CU Boulder's Department of Mathematics, is available to comment on the significance of Pi Day as an event and as a means of teaching people about mathematical concepts. Vernerey can be reached by email at divya.vernerey@colorado.edu or by phone at 303-492-8906.

Meantime, CU Boulder's undergraduate Math Club will host a Pi Day event on campus from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14 on the ground floor of the Mathematics building. Pie (of the dessert variety) will be served.
