Happy February Buffs! We’ve had some beautiful weather so far and it’s expected to continue through the week so get outside and do something fun. I am Sarah Ellsworth: IPHY major, Boulder native, and event connoisseur, writing to you from the comfort of beautiful CU Boulder on all of your weekly opportunities for community involvement, educational whatnot and supreme fun. Tuesday, Feb. 7

Bawdy Bodies: Satires of Unruly Women. This new exhibition at the CU Art Museum in the Visual Arts Complex features 18th century satirical cartoons of British women- a window into another time and another culture. This exhibit is open daily this week from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., so swing by and learn a thing or two. Wednesday, Feb. 8

Poetry workshop with Toluwanimi. Join Nigerian poet and Denver’s Youth Poetry Laureate Toluwanimi Oluwafunmilayo Obiwole for a free poetry workshop at the Dennis Small Cultural Center (UMC 204) from 4:30 to 6 p.m. If you love poetry, and you could tweak your work, this is an excellent opportunity to learn from a master. Reflections Unheard: Black Women in Civil Rights screening. In honor of Black History Month, come by CHEM 142 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. for a free movie screening about black women in civil rights. Bring a friend and come soak up some history. There will be free food as well. Reflections Unheard

Thursday, Feb. 9

Branch Out: Henna class. If you love henna, the beautiful temporary Indian tattoos, then swing by the Dennis Small Cultural Center (UMC 204) from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. for a free henna tattoo and free food. You will also be schooled on the history and significance of henna while you create your own. Branch Out

Buffalo Nites: Drag bingo. If you’re feeling lucky, then get ye to the North Dining Room of the UMC from 7 to 9 p.m. for some free drag bingo. You could win prizes and eat lots of fee food provided by the Center for Student Involvement. Don’t miss out! Buffalo Nites

Friday, Feb. 10

Global Warming Demystified. If climate change has you boggled, or you just want to brush up on your facts, then come to Fiske Planetarium at 7 p.m. Astrophysicist Jeffrey Bennett, who literally wrote the book on global warming, will be there to present the science and answer any questions you may have. Moana screening. Be sure to catch the very popular new animated film, starring The Rock, for free in CHEM 140 at 8 p.m., courtesy of the one and only Program Council. Moana, which has received excellent reviews from critics, takes place in ancient Polynesia. Admission and popcorn are free for all. Moana

Saturday, Feb. 11

CU on the Weekend: "What Darwin Didn’t Know About Animal Evolution." Join Daniel Medeiros for a free lecture open to all on evolutionary biology. Medeiros will be discussing animal diversity and gene editing in the Butcher Auditorium of the East Campus Biotech building from 1 to 3 p.m. Whether you’re a science aficionado or just a curious student, you’ll want to catch this lecture! CU guitar festival. This weekend, amazing musicians converge on CU for the annual guitar festival. Cellist Kimberly Patterson and guitarist Patrick Sutton perform a free concert in the Grusin Music Hall from 8 to 9 p.m., and the international guitar competition final round will be decided from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 12 in the same venue. Monday, Feb. 13

Community bowling. Bring your friends to community bowling night at The Connection, hosted by the Black Student Alliance in honor of Black History Month. From 6 to 8 p.m. you can enjoy free bowling and a ton of fun! All are welcome so come on down! Community bowling
