Join Research Computing (RC) on Monday, March 13, and Tuesday, March 14, for the next Software Carpentry Workshop. Software Carpentry aims to help researchers get their work done in less time and with less pain by teaching them basic research computing skills.

This hands-on workshop will cover basic concepts and tools, including program design, version control, data management and task automation. Participants will be encouraged to help one another and to apply what they have learned to their own research problems.

For more information on what RC teaches and why, please see their published paper "Best Practices for Scientific Computing."

The course is aimed at graduate students and other researchers. No previous knowledge of the tools presented at the workshop is necessary.

Participants must bring a laptop with a Mac, Linux or Windows operating system (not a tablet, Chromebook, etc.) that they have administrative privileges on. They should have a few specific software packages installed. They are also required to abide by Software Carpentry's Code of Conduct.

Materials will be provided in advance of the workshop, and large-print handouts are available if needed by notifying the organizers in advance. RC is committed to making the workshop accessible to everybody, so if you need special accommodations (e.g., sign-language interpreters, lactation facilities), please email rc-help@colorado.edu and they will attempt to provide them.

The workshop will take place on CU Boulder East Campus in the Computing Center located at 3645 Marine Street. The cost is $50 per person, including lunch both days. Registration closes on Monday, March 6, so register online now.

Please visit the workshop webpage for more information, including a detailed schedule, or email rc-help@colorado.edu.
