Student climbs up The CU Boulder climbing wallDid you know that studies have found that college students involved in recreation programs have less stress, higher GPAs, and are more likely to maintain higher levels of fitness throughout their lives? The Rec offers plenty of opportunities to become an active Buff and get involved in our campus community.

A whopping 88 percent of CU Boulder students use The Rec resources regularly. From working out to playing sports or rock climbing, The Rec Center is one of the strongest places for community on campus.

Each month, The Rec Center showcases one Active Buff, a person in the CU Boulder community who is committed to promoting health and fitness. The Rec has highlighted a wide variety of people through the Active Buffs program—from a triathlete to a graduate student—who use the amazing array of resources to stay fit while broadening their horizons. Kelly, October's Active Buff, says, "Everyone is here for the same reason, and doing anything at The Rec is better than doing nothing at home."

A few things students can find at The Rec:

  • the largest college rock climbing gym in the country
  • attendants in each weight room who can show you how to properly use machines for the best results
  • tents, maps and backpacks available to rent for weekend trips
  • sign-ups for camping and backpacking trips
  • plenty of space available to rent out for events if you are a member of a club or organization
  • a strong emphasis on community
