Actor George Takei, who starred in the Star Trek television series from 1966 to 1969 as Hikaru Sulu, helmsman of the USS Enterprise, will speak at Macky Auditorium on Wednesday, Oct. 26, during the Distinguished Speakers Board's first event of the semester. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and the event will begin at 7:30 p.m
Tickets for the event will be $2 for CU Boulder students and $10 for CU Boulder faculty and staff. Students, faculty and staff will need a valid Buff OneCard to purchase tickets. Community tickets will be $25. Student and faculty/staff tickets will be available starting Oct. 10 on the first floor of the University Memorial Center at the Distinguished Speakers Board table, Monday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (cash only). Community tickets will be available online at macky.colorado.edu starting at 10:30 a.m. on Oct 10. There will be a Q & A portion with the audience following the event.
Takei’s return to fame in recent times can be attributed to his involvement in social media. With a Facebook page with over 9.7 million likes, Takei has leveraged this platform to support LGBTQ rights, discuss and promote human rights, and support Japanese Americans. Takei tours the country discussing all aspects of his life and has become a powerful voice in a wide range of areas.
