Welcome to the University of Colorado Boulder, Class of 2020! You are beginning an amazing and life-changing journey. CU Boulder is the home to 20 astronauts, five Nobel Laureates, nine MacArthur fellowships and two Carnegie Foundation’s Professor of the Year Awards. You are working alongside actors, politicians, engineers, writers, and astronauts all of whom are going to change the future and so can you!

CU has a large assortment of clubs, programs and organizations for you to get involved in. We want you to be as successful as you can be, so utilize all of the resources that campus has to offer.

Your professors will say something along the lines of this to you as you start the school year: “Get involved and come to office hours whenever you have problems, questions or need resources.” Your RA’s and professors only have the success of their students on their mind so utilize them. Be as involved as you can be, because the students who get involved the most have not only the best Instagrams, but also higher overall GPAs. Be the best Buff you can be.

CU Student Government is an organization you should definitely consider when figuring out how to get involved with the CU Boulder campus. As one of the largest student governments in the country, we allocate $23 million in student fees across cost centers, programs and student groups every year. CUSG is run for the students, by the students, and will impact you throughout your time in Boulder so use your voice and get involved.

The cost centers that are under CUSG include, but are not limited to the Recreation Center, the Environmental Center, the Volunteer Resource Center, the UMC, the Cultural Events Board, and KVCU (Radio 1190). However, CUSG is not limited to the Boulder campus. We work at the state level working with legislation that directly affects the students of CU. We are working for the students and looking to improve the university as a whole.

If you are a first-year student who is looking to get involved you still have the chance to be part of Freshman Council. The council works closely with members of executive staff on programs like homecoming, elections and legislative affairs, and they get to craft and plan events of their own! Students who are chosen have the exclusive opportunity to shadow executives and legislators for the whole year and gain skill-building (as well as resume-building) experience. It is a great opportunity for you to meet other students and really get to know CU.

Make sure to follow CUSG on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram (@CUSGBoulder) for events, programs and opportunities on campus!
