Kicking off with a lecture on employment law, the University of Colorado Boulder’s Mini Law School will be offered from 6 to 7:30 p.m. over seven Tuesdays Sept. 13 through Nov. 11.
Open to the public, the $100 course is designed for non-lawyers wanting to grasp and navigate the basics of the legal system.
“The goal of the program is to engage campus and community members in learning about the legal profession, the law and the impact both have on people’s daily lives,” said Marci Fulton, an assistant dean at Colorado Law. “The lectures provide an opportunity for people to take a closer look at the role our legal system plays in some of society’s most pressing issues.”
There are three course participation options for registrants. Registrants may attend in person at the Wittemyer Courtroom of the Wolf Law building on the CU Boulder campus. They may attend a real-time live streamed video of the lectures at CU South Denver, located at 10035 Peoria St. in Parker, Colorado. Or, participants may take the course at their own pace, receiving links to online recordings of the lectures to view remotely at one’s convenience.
Modeled after the popular Mini Med School at the CU Anschutz Medical Campus, weekly Mini Law School sessions will consist of lectures by Colorado Law professors on various topics, including employment law, American Indian law, intellectual property law, criminal law, immigration law, water law and litigation.
There will be no class on Oct. 11. Participants who attend at least five of the seven sessions will receive a non-credit-bearing Mini Law School certificate of completion.
