The University of Colorado Boulder is pleased to announce its selection by the U.S. Department of State, and its cooperative partner, World Learning, to host an EducationUSA Academy in summer 2016.
Ten U.S. higher education institutions were selected as 2016 hosts. The EducationUSA Academy is a three- to four-week academic program that will provide intensive English language courses, college preparatory content, tours of diverse college and university campuses and cross-cultural activities to self-funded 15- to 17-year old students from around the world.
Among the primary objectives of the academy is to provide opportunities for international students to improve their English skills and become more familiar with the U.S. higher education system, academic culture, campus life and admissions process. The academy will create a pipeline to prepare international youth to pursue higher education in the United States by providing participants with the information, skills and experience necessary to submit strong applications for admission to U.S. colleges and universities.

CU-Boulder’s International English Center (IEC) will lead the program on campus. The IEC, established in 1975, provides an intensive English program designed for students preparing to enter a college or university in the United States. CU-Boulder was one of only two universities in the country selected by the U.S. Department of State to host the pilot program in July 2015.
Located at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, CU-Boulder’s world-renowned faculty maintain a reputation for excellence in research, creative work and teaching across 150 academic fields. There are 30,789 degree seeking students enrolled at CU-Boulder; and the campus enrolled more international students during the 2014-15 academic year and sent more students abroad during the 2013-14 academic year than any other higher education institution in Colorado. CU-Boulder was home to 2,614 international students during the 2014-15 school year, up from 2,163 in 2013-14.
The U.S. Department of State’s EducationUSA advising network includes more than 400 advising centers in 171 countries around the world that provide prospective international students with accurate, current and comprehensive information about U.S. higher education while supporting U.S. institutions’ international student recruitment efforts.
International education prepares students for today’s globalized economy and societies, developing the relationships between people and communities in the U.S. and around the world that are necessary to solve global challenges.
