Hello scholars. We start in on the Halloween themed events this week, with more to come. October is LGBT History Month, so we’re featuring an awesome LGBT event as well. I am Sarah Ellsworth: IPHY major, Boulder native, and event connoisseur, writing to you from the comfort of beautiful CU-Boulder on all of your weekly opportunities for community involvement, educational whatnot, and supreme fun. As always, have a fabulous week.

An Evening of Entrepreneurial Spirit, Social Responsibility, and Radical Business Philosophy with Ben and Jerry’s. The famous Ben and Jerry themselves will grace us with their presence in the Glenn Miller Ballroom at 7 p.m. to talk about how they strive to conduct an environmentally and economically sustainable company and seek to be corporately responsible. Bring your Buff OneCard to get in for free and enjoy some sweet ice cream provided by the hosts. More information here.

Thursday, Oct. 22

“On God’s Authority: Conscientious Objection in the Age of Same-Sex Marriage.” A panel discussion will be held in Eaton 1B50 at 7 p.m. to debate religious freedom vs. GLBTQ rights. In a time of changing social and legal status for gay marriage, how must businesses, organizations and public offices accommodate the GLBTQ community without discrimination and intolerance? It should be an interesting panel, and these issues are about as current as it gets, so take a peek this Thursday. For more information, visit the Colorado Arts & Sciences Magazine website.

Bioneers. Very similar to TedTalks for science, the Bioneers conference involves in-depth panel discussions on solving the world’s greatest environmental and social problems. The conference will continue through Oct. 25 and will feature engaging speakers from all around the world. Click here for a complete program and tickets.

The Nearly Naked Mile. This might be a Top Ten favorite event for me, guys. After you register online, get yourself to the Koenig Alumni Center at 8 p.m. with your Buff OneCard, five items of clothing to donate, and your signed waiver so that you too can dare to bare and run almost nude through campus on this wonderfully nipply October evening with 600 of your fellow Buffaloes. A word to the wise: this is NOT a completely naked mile; cops will be present. More information on the Nearly Naked Mile here.

Food Day. Be sure to swing by the UMC Fountain area between noon and 1 p.m. to catch a live band, student groups, a speaker from the Boulder County Farmer’s Market, and lots and lots of delicious food from local vendors. It’s International Food Day, and you need to eat, so you may as well eat delicious food with friends in the beautiful outdoors with accompanying music. Food Day information. Click here for more information.

Boulder High Haunted House. Get in the Halloween mood this and tomorrow evening, as well as the Oct. 30-31, with the Boulder High Haunted House between 7 and 9 p.m. The theater department continues their tradition of Boulder’s best and most elaborate haunted house, which costs $12 per ticket and is certainly worth the wait for the screams and thrills you will most assuredly encounter. Boulder High Haunted House.

Saturday, Oct. 24

Swing Dance Aerials Workshop. Register online for the CU Dance Department’s free swing dance aerials (jumping and lifting) class, which will take place in the Carlson Gym from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. No dance experience is needed- everyone is welcome so bring a friend! Click here for more information.

Haunted Halls. Do you like exploring haunted houses? Are you prepared for a zombie apocalypse? Are you ready to be scared? If you answered yes, then check out the annual Residence Hall Association (RHA) Haunted Halls from 8 p.m. to midnight in the Stearns basement of Williams Village. The event will also include free food, a DJ and an interactive photo booth. Must have a valid Buff OneCard to enter. Click here to learn more.

Sunday, Oct. 25

Banjo Billy Bus Tours- Boulder Ghost Tour. Okay it’s a little cheesy, but this is one of my favorite things to do in Boulder in the fall because it’s so fun! Hop on board Banjo Billy’s bus, decked out with comfy couches and a horn that sounds like a horse, to take a cruise around Boulder and learn a little history and a lot of spooky ghost lore. This happens every Thursday-Sunday this time of year; tickets are $25 and they sell out quick so get on it! Boulder Ghost Tour.

Padma Bhushan Mallika Sarabhai- In Search of Goddess. The Grusin Music Hall in the Imig Music Building welcomes Padma Bhushan Mallika Sarabhai, one of India’s foremost choreographers and dancers from 4 to 6 p.m. Sarabhai routinely performs traditional Indian dance all over the world, and is known for her grace and skill.
